GUITARIST

Since the realization of his album
“Guitar Master”, Giovanni Guido brings an innovation to the jazz guitar,
featuring the classical guitar, that’s the most virtuoso guitar finger-style
work ever realized in Jazz. This CD with 17 songs is a jazz album with 12
originals and 5 jazz standards. Some of the songs are improvised from start to
finish, like tr n. 2, 4, 6, 7, 13 and 16. 16 tracks are solo guitar, and the
17th track is in a quartet with Mario Canonge on piano, Linley Marthe on bass,
Francis Lassus on drums and Giovanni Guido on guitar. Although Giovanni Guido
plays both electric and classic guitars, (electric with a pick, classic with
bare right hand finger-style) the innovation he gives to the guitar world is
with the finger-style as with the classical guitar he plays solos and
improvises in all the main styles of Jazz: swing, be bop, Latin, free and
funk, to a virtuoso level never heard before as to fingerstyle jazz guitarists.
Giovanni Guido played for 5 years (from 1993 to 1998) with the Jazz
Crusaders, did duets with bassist Linley Marthe, percussionist Francis Lassus
and other musicians whose virtuosity stands to the highest level. In 2000 he was
awarded 1st Prize for Best Soloist at the International Contest of Jazz Soloists
in Monaco (Fr), and until one year ago, the electric and semi-acoustic guitars
were his main instruments - the classical guitar was secondary. Since February
2009, he started an intense and concentrated practice based on the finger-style
technique, the result you can listen to on this album. The amazing thing is that
in one year he became, technically speaking, the world’s fastest finger-style
jazz guitarist.
“...I worked very hard because I really wanted something,
to express myself on classical guitar as well as I was playing electric. I got
what I wanted in one year and I never stopped learning and improving (I quit
smoking and became addicted to guitar practice). I dedicate this album to
self-improvement, as in the hard times we live, that’s the most important
adaptation component we need to evolve, survive and save the World, and I
encourage every one of you to follow your dreams and accomplish anything you
want to accomplish”.
